F/Lt Edward J. 'JumboGracie flew with No 56 Squadron during the Battle. On the 10th of July 1940 his Hurricane was damaged in combat with some Bf 110's and he crash landed with a seized engine at Manston. He destroyed four enemy aircraft before the 8th of August 1940, and a further three before the 30th of August 1940. On the 30th of August 1940 he destroyed a Heinkel He 111 but was himself shot down at 16:45hrs, crash-landing his Hurricane I (R2689). He thought himself unhurt but next day discovered he had a broken neck, requiring admission to hospital! Gracie was awarded the D.F.C. on the 1st of October 1940. He scored six more kills flying from Malta. E.J.Gracie later flew Mosquito's on night escort for R.A.F. heavy bombers. E.J.Gracie was K.I.A. on the 15th of February 1944, aged 32.
F/Lt Edward 'TedGraham of No 72 Squadron escaped injury when he was shot down over Lympne on the 2nd of September 1940 at 16:10hrs in his Spitfire.
P/O K.A.G.Graham was posted away from No 600 Squadron to No 111 Squadron on the 24th of August 1940
Graham was K.I.A. on the 8th of February 1941 while flying a Whirlwind for No 263 Squadron, aged 20.
P/O L.W. Graham a South African joined No 56 Squadron on the 29th of July 1940. L.W.Graham was shot down in flames when bounced by Bf 109's on the 16th of  August 1940, at 12:05hrs and baled out of his Hurricane I (V7368) slightly injured. He was posted away three days later.
S/L John Grandy took over command of No 249 Hurricane Squadron from the 21st of August 1940. On the 6th of September 1940 at 08:45hrs he was wounded. He baled out of his Hurricane I (R4229) after combat with a Bf 109 over Maidstone. 
Grandy later became Chief of the Air Staff.
Sgt E.J.F.Grant flew with No 600 Squadron in Blenheim's during the Battle of Britain. He was K.I.A. on the 1st of December 1941, aged 21.
P/O Robert Davidson Grassic a Canadian flew Hurricanes with No 242 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He was awarded the D.F.C. on the 15th of July 1941.
P/O R.C.Graves of No 253 Squadron was wounded on the 29th of September 1940 at 18:30hrs. He was shot down in his Hurricane I (V6621) during combat with a Bf 109 over Weybridge, he baled out with burns.
Colin Falkland Gray

Born : New Zealand Group Captain Colin Falkland Gray was a New Zealander who came to England in December 1938. Gray joined the RAF in January 1939 then moved to No 54 Squadron on the 20th of  November 1939 to fly the Spitfire I on fighter sweeps over France. His score rose quickly twice getting two kills in a day and, on the 18th of August 1940 he destroyed four Me 110's. During the Battle of Britain he shot down two enemy aircraft in a day on several occasions to give him a personal total at the end of the Battle of 16 confirmed and eight probables.
He retired in April 1961 to return to business life in New Zealand.

P/O Clifford K.Gray joined No 43 Squadron on the 2nd of August 1940. Gray scored kills on the 16th and 18th of August. Gray was shot down on the 26th of August 1940 at 16:45hrs over Portsmouth . He baled out of his Hurricane I (P3202) with a wound to the arm. 
Later in the war he flew from Malta. Gray was warded the D.F.C. on the 17th of August 1945.
P/O D.McL Gray joined No 610 Squadron on the 27th of  July 1940. His Spitfire I (X4102) was written off after being shot down by a Bf 109 on the 24th of August 1940 at 11:30hrs over Dover. He was wounded. D.McL Gray was killed in a flying accident on the 5th of November 1940, aged 21. D.McL Gray is buried at E.Chevington.
Sgt M.Gray from No 72 Squadron was killed on the 5th of September 1940 at 14:25hrs. His Spitfire I (N3093) was shot down in combat with a Bf 109 over Kent.
P/O A.W.V.Green from No 235 Squadron was flying escort to Fairey Albacores on the 11th of September 1940. The Fairey Albacores from the Fleet Air Arm were on a raid on Calais at 17:30hrs and the Blenheim IV-f (L9396) flown by P/O P.C.Wickings-Smith was shot down. A.W.V.Green and all the crew (inc. R.D.H. Watts) died on the mission.
F/Lt C.P.Green was with No 92 Squadron early in the war and was wounded in the leg on the 23rd of May 1940. He was with 421 Flight when he was wounded on the 12th of October 1940. He baled out of his Spitfire II (P7441) after being attacked by a Bf 109 over Kent at 20,000 ft. 
P/O M.D.Green was with No 248 Squadron during the Battle of Britain flying in Blenheim's. On the 20th of October 1940 he was on a recce sortie off the Norwegian coast flying in Blenheim IVf (L9453) when he was shot down and killed. The other members of the crew were S.R.Gane & N.J.Stocks.
Sgt W.J.Green of No 501 Squadron baled out of his Hurricane I (R4223) on the 29th of August 1940 in the Channel off Folkstone at 19:20hrs. He was rescued.
S/Lt H.L.Greenshields was originally rejected by the RAF with defective eyesight before the war, he joined the R.N.V.R. and was among the group of F.A.A. pilots loaned to the RAF, He joined No 266 Squadron on the 1st of July. On the 15th of August 1940 he shot down a Bf 109. The following day he was involved in the pursuit of some Bf 109's over the Channel in his Spitfire I (N3240) and was shot down and killed at 12:40hrs, aged 22, by Lieutenant Mueller-Duhe of JG 26. His aircraft crashed in Calais. He is buried at Calais Southern.  Mueller-Duhe was himself shot down and killed two days later by pilots of No 32 Squadron.
Sgt. W.J.'Sticks' Gregory flew with No 29 Squadron in Blenheim's during the Battle of Britain. In the early morning of the 18th of August 1940 he was flying with R.A.Rhodes and they chased a Ju 88 intruder for 35 minutes and shot it down. He finished it off with his Vickers machine gun in a long burst.
Sgt R.H.Gretton joined No 266 Squadron in late May 1940. He was posted to No 222 Squadron in mid-September. While on patrol on the 27th of September 1940 he was bounced by  Bf 109's and shot down, crashing his Spitfire (R6720) near Rainham, Essex at 12:00hrs. He spent the next five months recovering from a fractured pelvis and spine. He returned to operational flying in November 1941 for three months before being posted for a further two months treatment and rehabilitation in February 1942, when he was also awarded the D.F.C. He returned to duty in April with the Aircraft Delivery Flight, where he remained for the duration.
F/O D.G.Gribble of No 54 Squadron when on patrols over France downed Bf 109's on the 23rd and 24th of  May. On the 25th of May 1940 he was shot down and force-landed on a beach near Dunkirk. He returned to England by ship. On the 24th of July 1940 Gribble shot down two Bf 109's, and added more of this type to his score on the 15th of August 1940, 18th (plus a Bf 110), 24th, 28th (two) and one on the 31st of August 1940. F/O D.G.Gribble was awarded the D.F.C. on the 13th of August 1940.  Following a dogfight with some Bf 109's over the Channel his engine failed, and he crashed into the sea and drowned on the 4th of June 1941, aged 21.
P/O D.H.Grice from No 32 Squadron was wounded on the 15th of August 1940 when his Hurricane I (P3109) was attacked by a Bf 109 south of Harwich at 15:25hrs. He baled out badly burned and was rescued by a motor torpedo boat.
D.N.Grice was flying with No 600 Squadron on the 8th of August 1940 at 11:55hrs his Blenheim (L8665) was shot down in flames by Oberleutnant Sprick of III Gruppe of JG 26. He flew his burning aircraft clear of Ramsgate, crashing into the sea. He and his two crewmen F.J.Keast and J.B.W.Warren were killed. Grice was 28.
F/O T.Grier joined No 601 Squadron in early July 1940. He scored 3 kills that month, 4 more on the 13th of August 1940, and another 7 during the Battle. Grier was awarded the DFC on the 1st of October 1940. Grier was posted M.I.A. on the 5th of December 1941 While on Ramrod, attacking shipping off Le Harve. He was then a member of No 32 Squadron flying a Hurricane II (Z3237). He had been promoted to Squadron Leader.
Sgt J.J.Griffinof No 73 Squadron was wounded on the 14th of September 1940. He baled out of his Hurricane I after combat over Maidstone, Kent at 16:05hrs.
F/O F.Gruszka a Polish pilot of No 65 Squadron was on patrol on the 18th of August 1940. He was shot down and killed in his Spitfire I (R6713), at Stodmarsh near Canterbury, at 13:30hrs. His Spitfire with his body still inside was recovered 35 years later in July 1975. He was buried at Northwood Cemetery with full military honours. 
P/O H.R.Gunn of No 74 Squadron was shot down and killed over Folkestone on the 31st of July 1940 at 16:00hrs in his Spitfire I (P9379). He had been in combat with a Bf 109 from IV Gruppe of JG 51.  H.R.Gun is buried at Oostende New Communal Cemetery. He was aged 27.
P/O P.S.Gunning from No 46 Squadron was killed on the 15th of October 1940 when his Hurricane I (N2480) was shot down by a Bf 109 of over the Thames Estuary at 13:05hrs.
P/O E.M.Gunter from No 501 Squadron was killed on the 27th of September 1940 at 12:25hrs. He baled out of his Hurricane I (V6645) after he had been in combat over Sittingbourne. His parachute failed to open.
P/O J.V.Gurteen of No 501 Squadron was shot down and killed on the 15th of September 1940 at 13:00hrs over South London in his Hurricane I (N2481). His aircraft crashed at Hartley in Kent.
Sgt L.N.Guy joined No 601 Squadron in early July 1940. He scored 2 kills on the 11th of August, plus 2 more on the 13th of August, another one on the 15th, and another two on the 16th. Guy was shot down and killed while flying a Hurricane (R4191) by a Bf 109 off the Sussex coast on the 18th of August 1940 at 14:15hrs, aged 25.
