F/O Alan F.Eckford was a member of No 32 Squadron, he shot down a Bf 109 on the 19th of May 1940 Eckford was posted to No 242 Hurricane Squadron, he went with them to France for ten hectic days before France fell and they returned to England. Eckford rejoined No 32 Squadron at the end of July, where he destroyed a Bf 109 and a Dornier Do17 on the 18th of August 1940. F/O A.F.Eckford destroyed three more enemy aircraft before the end of the Battle and was awarded the D.F.C. on the 24th of December 1940. 
S/L Gerry Edge flew with No 253 Squadron in Hurricane's during the Battle of Britain. On the 26th of September 1940 at 11:00hrs. He baled out of his Hurricane I (P2958) after combat over the Channel and was rescued.
Sgt A.Edgley of No 253 Squadron was wounded on the 29th of September 1940 at 16:25hrs. He was shot down in his Hurricane I (P2677) during combat with a Bf 109 over the Newhaven and baled out.
Sgt G.H.Edworthy of No 46 Squadron was killed on the 3rd of September 1940 at 10:35hrs. His Hurricane I (P3064) was lost in combat over the Essex coast.
P/O N.D.Edmond a Canadian with No 615 Squadron was wounded on the 29th of October 1940 at 12:45hrs. His Hurricane I (V6785) was badly damaged in combat.
P/O H.P.M.Edridge of No 222 Squadron was wounded with slight burns on the 30th of August 1940 when he baled out of his Spitfire I (K9826) over Barham, Kent after combat with a Bf 109 at 18:00hrs. H.P.M.Eldridge was K.I.A. on the 30th of October 1940 when he crash landed his Spitfire I (K9939) after combat with a Bf 109 over Ewhurst at 12:15hrs.
P/O Eric F.Edsall joined No 54 Squadron on the 1st of August 1940. Edsall destroyed three enemy aircraft before the 31st of August when at 13:15hrs, he was one of three pilots attempting to take off in the middle of an air-raid. His Spitfire I (X4236) was blown sideways across the airfield, spinning around and landing upright. He managed to get out of  the wreck, but his legs were so badly injured he could not stand. He crawled over to F/O A.C.Deere's inverted Spitfire I (R6895) where Deere was trapped in his cockpit, hanging in his harness. Edsall managed to wrench off the cockpit door and free Deere, who was then able to take Edsall to the sick bay. Sgt J.Davis was the other pilot trying to get airborn. Edsall was posted to No 222 Squadron when he had recovered from his injuries and added only one more kill to his score by the Battle's end. But he did have another crash in a Spitfire I (X4548), on the 27th of October 1940 when he ran out of fuel after combat and he was injured when he crash landed near Hailsham at 14:05hrs. He was awarded the D.F.C. on the 16th of January 1942, he was killed in a Japanese attack on Ceylon on the 12th of April 1942, aged 24.
P/O Henry Davies Edwards a Canadian flew Spitfire's with No 92 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He was killed on the 11th of September 1940 at 19:00hrs. His Spitfire I (P9464) had been in combat with some Bf 109's. The Spitfire crashed near Smeeth in Kent.
F/O R.L.Edwards a Canadian of No 1 (RCAF) Squadron was shot down by defensive fire from a Do 17, he crashed his Hurricane I (P3874) at Little Bardfield, Essex and was killed on the 26th of August 1940 at 15:40hrs.
F/Lt R.S.J.Edwards an Irishman of No 56 Squadron baled out of his Hurricane I (P3088) after combat over Portland on the 30th of September 1940 at 17:00hrs. He was unhurt.
Sgt E.J.Egan was posted to No 615 Squadron from No 600 Squadron on the 27th of  August 1940, then to No 501 Squadron on the 13th of  September 1940. E.J.Egan shot down a Bf 109 on the 15th of September. Egan was shot down in flames at 15:40hrs over Ashford on the 17th of September 1940, by a Bf 109, aged 19, and recorded as "missing", his Hurricane I (P3820) remains could not be located.

  It was not until the 11th of  September 1976 that the crash site was found and excavated. Egan`s  remains could not be positively identified, and he was buried as "an unknown airman" with full military honours. In November 1978 the site was again examined and positive evidence found to prove it was Egan's aircraft. His grave marker was changed accordingly.

Sgt V.H.Ekins of No 501 Squadron was in combat on the 27th of September 1940 at 12:25hrs. He baled out of his Hurricane I (V6672) after being attacked by a Bf 110 over Godstone in Surrey.
Sgt Douglas William Elcome of No 602 Squadron was reported M.I.A. when he failed to return from patrol in his Spitfire I (R6839) on the 26th of October 1940.His body was never recovered. Earlier that summer Douglas was flying a Spitfire I which crash-landed. He was knocked unconscious and hospitalised for a short while. He insisted on going back to flying and was accepted. However, on returning from patrol on the 26th of October 1940 he appeared to black out or go unconscious and his plane crashed into the sea off Selsey Bill. It was conjectured that this might have occurred because of his earlier crash. 
Sgt F.W.Eley of No 74 Squadron was shot down and killed over Folkestone on the 31st of July 1940 at 16:00hrs in his Spitfire I (P9398). He had been in combat with a Bf 109 from IV Gruppe of JG 51. 
P/O H.W.Eliot of No 73 Squadron was wounded on the 6th of September 1940 at 09:20hrs. Her baled out of his Hurricane I (P2875) after combat over the Thames Estuary.
P/O J.F.D.Elkington of No 1 Squadron was injured on the 16th of August 1940 at 13:05hrs when his Hurricane I (P3173) was shot down over Thorny Island.
P/O J.L.Ellacombe was posted to No 151 Squadron on the 13th of  July 1940 without ever having flown a Hurricane. A pilot of No 56 Squadron, P/O F.B.Sutton, who was non-operational due to being wounded in France, was assigned to convert him and another pilot, P/O J.T.Johnston. On the 24th of August he shot down a He 111. On the 31st of August 1940 at 13:30hrs he was badly burned when he was shot down near Southend by return fire from Ju 88's and his gravity fuel tank exploded in his Hurricane (P3312) as he was baling out. He did not return to operations until December. P/O J.L.Ellacombe was awarded a D.F.C. on the 7th of April 1942. On the 28th of July 1942 J.L.Ellacombe probably destroyed a Do 217 at night in co-operation with a Turbinlite Havoc. He was awarded Bar to D.F.C. on the 29th of December 1944.
P/O R.D.Elliott of No 72 Squadron baled out safely over Kent on the 4th of September 1940 at 13:20hrs. His Spitfire I was shot down by a Bf 110 over Hartfield, Sussex. R.D.Elliot was wounded on the 6th of September 1940 at 09:20hrs. He had been in combat over the Thames Estuary.
F/O J.Ellis of No 610 Squadron shot down five aircraft before the Battle of Britain, three of them were fighters. He shot down a Bf 109 on the 24th of July 1940 and three more Bf 109's on the 25th of July. On the 26th of July he was made an acting Squadron Leader and given command of No 610 Squadron. He shot down four more aircraft before the end of August, three more of them were Bf 109's. J Ellis received a D.F.C. on the 13th of August 1940. He was awarded the Bar to the D.F.C. on the 2nd of May 1941. He ended the war a P.O.W. but returned to the UK and took part in the first Battle of Britain fly-past in September 1945.
Sgt J.H.Mortimer 'Cock-SparrowEllis from No 85 Squadron was on patrol on the 29th of August 1940 at 16:00hrs when he was shot down by a Bf 109. He baled out of his Hurricane (L1915) unhurt. His aircraft crashed at Ashburnham, Kent. Ellis was in his Hurricane (P2673) on the 1st of September 1940 at 14:15hrs when he was 'Lost' after combat with Bf 109's over Kenly. 
His body was finally identified in 1993 in an unmarked grave.
Sgt W.T.Ellis of No 92 Squadron crash landed his Spitfire I (X4552) on the 10th of October 1940 after attacking a Do 17 over Tangmere at 08:35. He escaped injury.
Sgt H.D.B.Elsdon from No 236 Squadron along with his pilot C.R.D.Thomas in a Blenheim (L6779) were shot down and killed over Le Harve by a Bf 109 from JG 2 at 12:15hrs on the 18th of July 1940. They were on a photo reconnaissance.
F/O T.A.F.Elsdon of No 72 Squadron was wounded on the 7th of September 1940 at 18:20hrs. He was in combat with a Bf 109 and he crash landed his Spitfire I (X4254) at Biggin Hill. 
Sgt P.Else of  No 610 Squadron baled out wounded on the 26th of August 1940 at 12:40hrs. His Spitfire I (P9496) had been shot up by a Bf 109 over Folkestone. His Spitfire crashed at Paddlesworth.
P/O C.E.English flew with  No 85 Squadron and No 605 Squadron's in the Hurricane. He was killed on the 7th of October 1940 when he was shot down over Westerham at 14:00hrs by Bf 109's. He baled out of his Hurricane I (P3677) but his parachute got caught on the tail plane and he was killed. English is buried at Newcastle.
P/O D.Evans flew with No 607 Squadron and No 615 Squadrons during the Battle. He was on patrol on the 5th of October 1940 over Swanage. He was shot down by a Bf 109 at 14:00hrs and he baled out of his Hurricane I (P3554) safely whilst with No 607 Squadron .
Sgt W.R.Evans flew with No 85 Squadron and No 249 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He moved to No 249 Squadron at North Weald on the 11th of September 1940 and was put to work strait away on a scramble. He hardly had time to get a Mae West and the colour signal of the day.
Sgt P.R.Eyles of No 92 Squadron  was on patrol in his Spitfire I (N3248) and became the second victory of  W.Mölders on the 20th of September 1940  when he was shot down and killed off Dungeness at 11:35hrs.
F/O A.Eyre flew with No 615 Squadron in Hurricane's during the Battle of Britain. He and L.M.Gaunce and Dutch Hugo destroyed 3 Bf 109's over the convoy 'Bosom' in mid July 1940.
