P/O A.Geoffrey Page
of No 56 Squadron was a pupil of Cranwell
R.A.F. College before the war and was going to be an instructor but the
shortage of trained fighter pilots at the outbreak of War changed that.
At the start of the Battle of Britain he was considered to be a veteran
at 20 with 3 months fighting experience. F/O A.G.Page was with
No 56 Squadron and destroyed three enemy aircraft during the Battle. He
was shot down in flames on the 12th
of August 1940, while attacking some
Do
17's, he baled out of his Hurricane
I (P2970) "Little Willie" over the Channel and was
rescued, badly burned. He was awarded the D.F.C. on the 30th of July 1943.
Later in 1943 Page rejoined an operational squadron and by July 1944 he
was promoted to Wing Commander on the continent. In September he
crashed during landing, smashing his face on the gun-sight and injuring
his back. On the 29th of December 1944 he was awarded the D.S.O., Page
was credited with 15 enemy aircraft destroyed. He then went on a lecture
tour of the USA and when he returned in April once again went into hospital,
this time to have a cannon splinter removed from his leg which had been
there since August 1940! He then became a test pilot at Vickers-Armstrong.
Geoffrey Page, passed away on 7 August 2000. Geoffrey Page is a flying legend who will be greatly missed. Let us keep memories of him alive. |

F/Lt W.Pankratz from Poland joined No 145 Squadron on the 16th of July 1940. F/L W Pankratz was posted M.I.A. after combat South of the Isle of White in his Hurricane I (R4176) at 12:30hrs on the 12th of August 1940, aged 37. He was awarded KW on the 1st of February 1940. |
Sgt K.B.Parker of No 92 Squadron was killed on the 15th of October 1940 at 10:00hrs. His Spitfire I (R6838) was shot down by a Bf 109 over the Thames Estuary and crashed on the mudflats off All Hallows in Essex. He is buried at Terschelling, Netherlands. |
P/O V.Parker of No 234 Squadron was in combat off Swanage on the 15th of August 1940 at 16:15hrs. His Spitfire I (R6985) went missing but he was rescued from the sea by the Germans and made a P.O.W. |
Sgt C.Parkinson of No 501 Squadron was shot down on the 20th of July 1940 at 13.15hrs while on patrol. His Hurricane I (P3766) was attacked by a Bf 109 from JG 27 South of Swanage. He was rescued but died on the 21st of July 1940. |
F/L D.C.Parnell of No 249 Squadron was on patrol in his Hurricane I (V6685) when he was shot down and killed over Gravesend on the 18th of September 1940 at 13:25hrs. |
P/O S.B.Parnell of No 607 Squadron was killed on the 9th of September 1940 at 17:30hrs. His Hurricane I (P3574) crashed after combat with fighters and bombers over Goodhurst in Kent. |
P/O Peter Lawrence Parrott flew Hurricane's with No 145 Squadron & No 605 Squadron during the Battle. He shot down 3 enemy aircraft and shared in another. |
Sgt C.A.Parsons joined No 610 Squadron in July 1940. Parsons shot down three aircraft during the Battle of Britain. Sgt C.A. Parsons was killed on the 8th of November 1941, aged 27. |
F/O C.W.Passy of No 605 Squadron crash landed his Hurricane I (P3827) 1 mile from Usworth on the 15th of August 1940 after combat with He 111's of KG 26 around Newcastle at 14:10hrs. He was not injured. On the 26th of October 1940 he escaped injury when he force landed his Hurricane I (P3737) near Marks Cross, Sussex at 12:35hrs. The Hurricane had developed engine problems whilst chasing a Bf 109. |
Lt. Ludwik 'Pazko' Paszkiewicz from Poland flew with No 303 Squadron in Hurricane's. On the 30th of August, 1940 he noticed a group of German planes being attacked by British fighters, he left the Squadron formation of Hurricanes who were non-operational and attacked a lone Do 17, which crashed into the ground shortly after. Following the flight, he received a reprimand from the commanding officer, immediately followed by warm congratulations on opening the Squadron's tally. He shot down 2 Do 17's on the 7th of September 1940, a Bf 110 on the 11th of September a Bf 109 on the 15th and a He 111 on the 26th of September 1940 all in Hurricane (V7235) RF-M. He died on the 27th of September 1940 at 09:30hrs. His Hurricane I (L1696) RF-T was shot down over Kent. He was credited with 6 confirmed kills. |
P/O John A.Pattison from New Zealand flew with No 92 Squadron and No 266 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He was injured on the 11th of September 1940 at 18:50hrs. His Spitfire I (R6613) was in combat with a Bf 109 over Folkestone and he crash landed. The Spitfire was a write off. |
Sgt L.J.Patterson from No 501 Squadron was shot down and killed off Hastings in a Hurricane X (P5189) by a Bf 109 of JG51 on the afternoon of the 28th of November 1940. |
Midshipman P.J.Patterson from the F.A.A. was flying Hurricane I (P2976) on patrol with No 242 Squadron on the 20th of August 1940. He crashed into the sea off Winterton at 13:45hrs. Patterson was reported missing, cause unknown. |
P/O R.L.Patterson from No 235 Squadron was flying on convoy patrol in a Blenheim IV (N3541) on the 18th of July 1940 and failed to return from the patrol. Two others R.Y.Tucker and L.H.M.Reece also perished in the aeroplane. R.L.Patterson was from Wormit, Fife and he was 26. |
P/O A.J.S.Pattinson of No 92 Squadron was wounded when he crashed while attempting to land his Spitfire I (P9371) after combat with Bf 109's over Gravesend on the 23rd of September 1940 at 10:00hrs. He was K.I.A. on the 12th of October 1940 when he was shot down by a Bf 109 over Hawkinge at 16:40hrs in his Spitfire I (X4591). |
Sub/Lt F.D.Paul from No 64 Squadron was badly wounded on the 25th of July 1940 when his Spitfire I (P9369) was shot down off Folkestone in combat at 17:45hrs by Bf 109's. He was rescued by the Germans but died of his wounds on the 30th of July 1940. |
Sgt W.A.Peacock of No 46 Squadron was killed on the 11th of September 1940 at 15:30hrs. His Hurricane I (V7232) was shot down over the Thames Estuary in combat. |
Sgt L.H.B.Pearce joined No 32 Squadron in early July 1940. Pearce destroyed a Do 17 on the 15th of August and was shot down on the 18th of August in his Hurricane I (R4106) while on patrol. Pearce baled out slightly wounded following combat with Bf 109's of JG 26 near Canterbury, at 17:30hrs. Sgt L.H.B.Pearce was K.I.A. on the 9th of April 1941, aged 27. |
Sgt P.G.Pearce from No 600 Squadron fought in the Battle of Britain. He was K.I.A. in a Beaufighter II (R2312) on the 15th of December 1941 after combat with a He 111 at one O'clock in the morning. |

F/O C.D.Peel from No 603 Squadron was flying a Spitfire (K9916) on the 17th of July 1940 when he was reported missing the details of which are not known. He took off from Turnhouse and was not seen again. |
S/L John R.A.Peel was posted to command No 145 Squadron in early July, scoring his first victory on the 7th of July and two more before the end of the month. In between, he was shot down on the 11th of July 1940 ditching his Hurricane (P3400) in the Channel at 18:25hrs and being rescued from the chilly waters semi-conscious by the Selsey lifeboat. On the 8th of August 1940 he shot down two Ju 87's (Stuka's) and a Bf 109 who were raiding the "Peewee Convoy" before being shot down and wounded. S/L J.R.A.Peel was awarded the D.F.C. on the 13th of August 1940. |
P/O C.O.J.Pegge joined No 610 Squadron in June. On the 8th of July Pegge destroyed a Bf 109 and on the 12th of August two more. Pegge scored five more kills before the end of the month, including three more Bf 109's. Pegge was awarded the D.F.C. on the 22nd of October 1940. C.O.J.Pegge Commanded No 610 Squadron from December 1941 to the following February. C.O.J.Pegge was awarded the Bar to D.F.C. on the 29th of January 1946. |
S/L David A.Pemberton of No 1 Squadron flew the Hurricane I during the Battle of Britain. He shot down and killed W.Baesell, who was flying a Bf 109 from III Gruppe of JG 3 on the 18th of August 1940. |
Sgt F.S.Perkin of No 73 Squadron baled out of his Hurricane I (V7445) on the 23rd of September 1940 after combat with a Bf 109 at 11:00 over Sheppy. He also flew with No 421 Flight. |
F/Lt. Georges Perrin a Free Frenchman of No 249 Squadron was wounded on the 12th of October 1940. He baled out of his Hurricane I (V7313) near Ewhurst Sussex after combat with a Bf 109 at 09:50hrs. |
F/O G.C.B.Peters of No 79 Squadron was killed on the 29th of September 1940 at 18:30hrs. He was shot down in his Hurricane X (P5177) during combat with a He 111 over the Irish Sea. |
F/O O.J.Peterson was an Canadian pilot in No 1 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron flying Hurricane's. The Alberta-born Peterson joined the R.C.A.F. before the war. He destroyed two aircraft during the Battle of Britain. During a combat on the 27th of September 1940 with Ju 88's and Bf 110's in his Hurricane I (P3647) he was shot down and killed near Hever, Kent at 09:15hrs, aged 24. |
P/O Jan 'Fife' Pfeiffer from Poland joined No 32 Squadron on the 8th of August 1940 and flew in Hurricane's. He also flew with No 257 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. |
P/O J.Phillipart a Belgian of No 213 Squadron shot down a Ju 88 on the 11th of August 1940, three Bf 110's and a damaged Bf 110 on the 15th of August and another Ju 88 on the 22nd of August 1940. P/O J.Phillipart was killed on the 25th of August 1940 when his Hurricane I (V7226) was shot down by a Bf 109 of JG 53 off Portland, at 17:30hrs. He baled out but was drowned. |
F/Sgt N.T.Phillips of No 65 Squadron was killed on the 8th of August 1940. He was shot down over Manston in his Spitfire I (K9905) by a Bf 109 of JG 26 at 11:40hrs. |
