Saturday the 20th of July 1940

Day: There were battles over the Convoy 'Bosom' off the south coast. Heavy attack on Dover and shipping in the area. First large-scale dogfight during the afternoon, between about 48 Bf 109's and 40 Hurricane's and Spitfire's.

Night: Widespread minelaying by He 111's and Ju 88's, stepped up off east
coast and between Isle of Wight and the Bristol Channel.

Losses: Luftwaffe 16: Fighter Command  7.

Weather:  Cloudy at first, becoming brighter with thunderstorms.
