Thursday the 22nd of August 1940

Day: There was shelling in the Channel and some early reconnaissance flights over shipping and several attacks on Channel convoys. Improving weather later brings a series of raids on Dover and Manston,

Night: night raids over a large area of the country, mainly on Midlands industrial centres and others in Bristol area. Attempted raids unsuccessful on main airfields, but Manston, North Coates, St Eval and Wick are attacked. Better weather at sea permits minelaying and several attacks on convoys.

Losses: Luftwaffe 4: Fighter Command  5

Weather: Continuing cloud, with squally conditions.
