Sgt M.M.Shanahan from No 1 Squadron was shot down and killed off Harwich on the 15th of August 1940 at 15:00hrs in his Hurricane I (P3043).
P/O M.M.Shand a New Zealander joined No 54 Squadron on the 24th of August 1940 with some 20hrs flying on Spitfires with no training at all in combat. He flew as No 2 to Al Deere on his first outing. He was injured on the 25th of August 1940 at 19:20hrs. His Spitfire I (R6969) was attacked by a Bf 109 over Dover.
Sgt B.R.Sharp of No 235 Squadron was flying escort to Fairey Albacores on the 11th of September 1940  in a Blenheim IV-f (L9396). The Fairey Albacores from the Fleet Air Arm were on a raid on Calais at 17:30hrs and the Blenheim IV-f (L9396) flown by F/Lt F.W.Flood was shot down by a Bf 109. Sgt B.R.Sharp and the crew all died on the mission.
Sgt. R Sharpley from No 234 Squadron was killed when his Spitfire I (X4027) went into the sea off Porth, Cornwall on the 16th of November 1940.
F/O I.G.Shaw of No 264 Squadron and his gunner A.Berry were killed on the 24th of August 1940 at 12:40hrs. Their Defiant (L7027) was shot down by Bf 109's of JG 3 off Manston.
P/O R.H.Shaw of No 1 Squadron was killed in action on the 3rd of September 1940 at 11:30hrs South of Maidstone in a Hurricane I (P3782).
F/O Desmond F.B.Sheen of No 72 Squadron an Australian baled out of his Spitfire I (X4109) safely on the 1st of September 1940  at Ham Street, Kent at 11:50hrs. He had been in combat with some German fighters. On the 5th of September 1940 he was wounded in combat with a  Bf 109 at 14:25hrs. He baled out of his Spitfire I (X4034) near to Hawkinge. He was later made a Wing Commander and awarded the D.F.C. and Bar ( Australian).
Sgt F.E.R.Shepherd of No 611 Squadron was killed on the 11th of September 1940 at 16:00hrs. He baled out of his Spitfire II (P7298) after combat over Croydon in Surrey. His parachute burned and he was killed. His aircraft crashed at Weybridge in Surrey.
P/O D.C.Shepley of No 152 Squadron was shot down and killed on the 12th of August 1940 at 12:30hrs by a Ju 88 South of the Isle of Wight in his Spitfire I (K9999).
P/O N.B.Shorrocks of No 235 Squadron was flying escort to Fairey Albacores on the 11th of September 1940 in a Blenheim IV-f (L9396) flown by F/Lt F.W.Flood. F/O Lord Shuttleworth joined No 145 Hurricane Squadron in June 1940. Shuttleworth destroyed two enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain. Following a combat over a convoy south of the Isle of Wight Shuttleworth was posted M.I.A. on the 8th of August 1940, aged 27.
Sgt F.A.Sibley of No 238 Squadron force landed his Hurricane I (N2597) at Glastonbury on the 25th of September 1940 at 15:40hrs after combat. F.A.Sibleywas K.I.A. on the 1st of October 1940 when his Hurricane I (P3599) was shot down over Poole Harbour at 11:10hrs.
Sgt W.G.Silver of No 152 Squadron was killed on the 25th of September 1940 at 11:55hrs. His Spitfire I (P9463) was shot down off Portsmouth.
Sgt R.B.Simm of No 111 Squadron was shot down in his Hurricane I (P3942) off Margate and killed in combat on the 11th of August 1940 at 14:20hrs.
P/O Vernon C.Simmonds of No 238 Squadron baled out after his Hurricane I (N2474) collided with the Hurricane I (L1702) of P/O R.A.Kings near Shaftsbury on the 30th of September 1940 at 14:00hrs. .
F/O G.M.Simson a New Zealander flew with No 229 Squadron in Hurricane's during the Battle of Britain. G.M.Simson was K.I.A. on the 26th of October 1940, his Hurricane I (W6669) was shot down off the French coast by a Bf 109 after he attacked a He 59 at 11:30hrs.
F/Lt John W.C.Simpson from No 43 Squadron was on patrol on the 19th of July 1940 in his Hurricane I (P3140) when he was shot down by a Bf 109 of JG 27. He baled out near Selsey slightly wounded at 17:15hrs. He was awarded a D.F.C. and promoted to Squadron Leader with No 245 Squadron.
P/O Peter J.Simpson flew with No 111 Squadron  and on the 18th of August 1940 force landed his Hurricane I (P3399) after being hit by the return fire from a Do 17 from KG 76. He landed on Woodcote  Park Golf Course near Epsom at 13:40hrs. He also flew with No 64 Squadron in Spitfire I's during the Battle of Britain.
F/Lt Gordon L.Sinclair of No 310 Squadron baled out safely on the 9th of September 1940 at 17:35hrs. His Hurricane I (R4084) collided with a Hurricane I (P3888) flown by J.F.Boulton whilst in combat over Croydon. His aircraft crashed at Purley Way, Wallington in Surrey. He baled out of another Hurricane I (V6608) on the 27th of September 1940 after combat over Thanet with a Bf 109 at 12:20hrs. He was unhurt.
F/Lt J.E.J.Sing from No 213 Squadron baled out of his Hurricane I (P3780) safely on the 11th of September 1940 at 16:00hrs over Selsey.
Sgt A.Siudak from Poland of No 303 Squadron was killed when the Hurricane I (P3120) he was in was bombed on the ground at Northolt by a lone raider at 12:00hrs on the 6th of October 1940
P/O Wilfred Max Sizer served with No 213 Squadron flying Hurricane's during the Battle of  Britain. He had 4 Kills during the Battle.
P/O Stanislaw Skalski from Poland of No 501 Hurricane Squadron was already an ace with 7.5 confirmed victories by the 2nd of September 1940. He was injured on the 5th of September 1940 when his Hurricane I (V6644) was shot down by a Bf 109 at 10:00hrs over Canterbury. His final tally for the war was 18 confirmed kills 3 shared kills 2 probable's and 4 damaged. He attained the rank of Wing Commander.
Sgt William Malcolm Skinner joined No 74 Squadron from the R.A.F.V.R. on the 10th of June 1939 from No 5 E & R.F.T.S. at Hanworth. He baled out of his Spitfire I (X4022) after a collision while on patrol on the 30th of August 1940. He was not hurt. He was promoted to Pilot Officer and awarded the D.F.C. Skinner was made a P.O.W. on the 6th of July 1941 when he was shot down over France in a Spitfire V (W3208).
P/O D.M.Slatter a gunner from No 141 Squadron was on patrol on the 19th of July 1940 in a Defiant (L7016) piloted by P/O J.R.Gardener when he was shot down by a Bf 109 of JG 51. His pilot baled out near Dover at 12:45hrs and was rescued. Slatter was reported K.I.A.
Sgt. Vaclav Slouf flew during the Battle of France and on their surrender flew to England and joined No 312 Czech Squadron in Duxford in 1940 as a Sgt Pilot. He was decorated 20 times by 3 countries and became Squadron Commander in 1944 when he was awarded the D.F.C. After the war he and other Czechs returned home, he was a pilot with CSA, (Czech Airlines)  When the communist took power he returned to England and re-joined the RAF. He died in 1978 and is buried  in Weston-Super-Mare,
Somerset.
Sgt O.K.Sly of No 29 Squadron was shot down and killed along with Sgt R.E.Stevens and AC2 A.Jackson in Blenheim If (L6637)  by Hurricane's off Point Ayr, The Wirral at 18:00hr on  the 13th of October 1940
