P/O A.E.A.vanden Hove d'Ertsenrijck a Belgian of No 501 Squadron  was killed when his Hurricane I (P2760) exploded after combat on the 15th of September 1940 at12:45hrs. The aircraft fell into the River Stour.
S/L Victor Bosanquet Strachan Verity was born at Timaru, New Zealand on November the 5th 1919. He was educated at Timaru Boys' High School from 1932 to 1934 and after leaving school, worked on his father's farm. He sailed for Britain on the 1st of February 1939 to take up a short service commission in the R.A.F. He completed his training in November 1939 and joined No 229 Squadron which was then carrying out patrols in Blenheim's over the North Sea fishing fleet, known to the pilots as 'Kipper' patrols. After re-equipping with Hurricanes in March 1940 the squadron was sent to France on the 14th of May 1940.  The squadron then fought over Dunkirk and on May the 31st he destroyed a Bf 110 and was then shot down into the sea but picked up by a paddle steamer whose captain had seen the action and confirmed Verity's victory.  Verity destroyed an He 111 and damaged a Bf 110 on the 11th of September 1940 and on the 4th of October 1940 he shot down a Ju 88. Later in the month Verity joined No 422 Flight, an experimental fighter unit. In August 1941 Verity was awarded the D.F.C. 
      He died in Wellington, New Zealand in February 1979.
F/Lt. John Wolferstan 'Pancho' Villa was a pre war member of the R.A.F. and flew with No 72 Squadron. He shot down a Bf 109 on the 1st of September 1940. He moved to No 92 Squadron in October 1940 to lead a flight. He shot down 10 enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain and was awarded the D.F.C.. He took over command of No 65 Squadron in the August of 1941.
Group Captain Stanley Vincent was 43 years old at the time of the battle and flew a lone Hurricane (the station defense flight) as often as possible. He was a WW1 fighter ace. He took of alone on the 15th of September 1940 and encountered a formation of Dorniers escorted by Bf 109's and attacked the bombers scoring some hits using up all his ammunition.
P/O F.Vindis a Czech of No 310 Squadron crashed his Hurricane at Sudbury, Suffolk on the 1st of November 1940.
Sgt F.F.Vinyard of No 64 Squadron was on patrol in his Spitfire I (R6683) on the 6th of October 1940. He was killed when he crashed into the sea off Flamborough Head, Yorkshire at 14:20hrs (cause unknown).
F/Lt R.Voase-Jeff of No 87 Squadron was lost in combat in his Hurricane I (V7231) over Portland Bill on the 11th of August 1940 at 10:45hrs. He was awarded the D.F.C. and later the Bar to the D.F.C.
