Sunday the 8th of September 1940

Day: Perhaps due to increased cloud, no raid on London materialises. Luftflotte 2 returns to attacks on Kentish airfields and other points in the South East, though with little effect. The Luftwaffe is recuperating.

The invasion Alert No 1 is in force.

Night: At night, waves of Luftflotte 3 bombers return to the attack on east London. This is to be the general pattern of Luftwaffe attack for the next few weeks, with increasing attention to London as the main target.

Losses: Luftwaffe 28 : Fighter Command 6.

Weather: Generally fair, but light cloud during middle of the day.
