Tuesday the 24th of September 1940

Day: Attempted mass bomber raid on London, fighter sweeps and fighter-bombers attack the Supermarine works at Woolston, on the outskirts of Southampton. Little damage was done to the factory, but nearly 100 workers were killed when a shelter was hit. The area was bombed again two days later.

Night: Widespread bombing with the main targets being London the Midlands and Merseyside.

Losses: Luftwaffe 10: Fighter Command 6.

Weather: Continuing fine, but a lot of haze. Cloudy in the Channel.
